Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. How often should I service my HVAC system?

Twice a year, once in the fall for the heating season and once in the spring for cooling season. This will guarantee that your system is operating at peak efficiency, and also find small dissues before they turn into major problems. Signing up for a service contract will extend the life of your equipment by as much as 10 years or more!

Q. What is the warranty like on a new HVAC system?

Our base Labor Warranty for any Trane or Mitsubishi installation is 3 years on itop of the manufacturers 10 year parts warranty. So basically if you have any issue that's not maintenance related is 100% free within the first 3 years of the installation date. We also offer extended labor warranties for an additional fee, but this must be purchased at the time of installation.

Q. Which HVAC system is right for my home?

We will come out and assess your home and recommend the best system for your home and budget. We give you a few options unlike our competitors that work off of commission, we don't push the most expensive system possible we want to make sure you get the system that not only works best for your home it also has to work for your budget. Sometimes you need to replace your system at a time when you don't have the money on hand, and in those cases we offer financing and we can get your monthly payment below $100 and you can pay it off whenever the funds become available.

Q. How do I know if I need a new heater or air conditioner?

So we aren't a company that tries to sell you a new system every chance we get. We want you to get your money's worth out of your existing system so we will continue repairing your system until you decide it's costing too much money to keep it going. Normally when your compressor fails is the time when I recommend replacement, or also if you have numerous leaks in your AC or heat pump then it's time to consider replacement.

Q. How often should I check my air filter?

Monthly

Q. How often should I clean my air filter?

I don't recommend reusable filters, over time they build up dirt and grim in the middle of the washable filters and they become a restriction on your air flow. I recommend getting pleated filters, they are made out of a cloth like material and you can't see through them. If you can see through then then dust and dirt can get through them.

Q. How often should I replace my air filter?

Every 1-3 months, or if you have a media filter (4" thick pleated) 8-12 months

Q. What is the proper indoor humidity level?

It's recommended that the humidity level in your home be between 30 & 50%, but between 35 & 45% is the most comfortable for most people. If your humidity level is higher than 50% in the summer then you most likely have an issue with your AC system. If your humidity is in below 30% in the winter then a humidifier would make your home much more healthy and comfortable.

Q. Why do I need a humidifier?

There are multiple reasons why you need a humidifier in your home, and it's not just for your health even though that's the most important. A dry home is unhealthy for your skin and respiratory system. Most people start getting a bloody nose when it's dry and this is because your nasal passage becomes dry as well, which leads to all kinds of breathing issues. Dry skin and scalp are another common issue in a dry home. It's also unhealthy for your home as well. Any wood in your home shrinks when it's dry. Wood floors, crown molding, floor joists, cabinets, and anything else that's wood will create cracks and gaps. Think of all the money you spent on those upgrades, and get your home a humidifier so you protect those investments and also have a healthy home for you and your family.

Q. Should I have my air ducts cleaned?

We recommend having your ducts cleaned every 5 years. We don't offer this service but we recommend American Duct Cleaning! Give Brandon a call at (703) 895-6203

Q. What Size Heating and Air Conditioning System Do I Need?

So when your home was built a load calculation was done on your home and that determines the size of your system and also how much air each room needs. If your home was built pre-2000's then this may not have been done so we can get dimensions and window sizes and do a quick load calculation if your previous system had trouble keeping up in the past. If you home is newer then I don't normally recommend changing the size of your system, unless an addition was put on the house or something else that could affect the load.

Q. What type of heating and air conditioning system should I get?

We recommend Trane and Mitsubishi brand equipment, they are far away the most reliable brands on the market. Both brands sell quality equipment that lasts, and our customers get the most bang for their buck! They both hold patents so their designs can't be replicated and believe me these other brands try but no one comes close!

Q. What is the best way to heat and cool my home?

Give us a call and have us come to do an assessment of your current system, and we will give you our recommendations on what can be done to improve your hvac system's performance and efficiency, as well as your indoor air quality.

Q. What is better: Gas, Electric, or Oil?

In our climate the heat pump is quickly becoming the best way to heat your home. A heat pump is the most efficient way to heat your home down to 35 degrees outside, and below 35 degrees Gas becomes more efficient. So 80+% of the winter it's above 35 degrees, and the cost of electricity is going down while gas and oil continue to rise. Also with invention of inverter compressors these newer variable speed technology is only going to continue to get better and better so eventuality gas is going to be needed in super cold climates but everywhere else will just use heat pumps.

Q. How do I know if my air quality is bad?

Coughing and sneezing are pretty tell tale signs your indoor air quality isn't great. You can have us come out and do an assessment of your hvac system and we will be able to tell you if you need some IAQ accessories like air purifiers, media filters, humidifiers, UV lights, ect.

Q. How can I check or test my air quality?
